October is the hinge. The Gulf (Samui side) is often still in its wetter window; the Andaman is coming out of monsoon. Mu Ko Similan reopens around 15 October 2026 (closed ~16 May–14 Oct). Which coast in July?

Usually the Gulf. Andaman swell and rain are the default; Similans are shut. Tao courses and Samui-side sand are why people fly east in the southwest monsoon. Still not a promise — just the better bet. Which coast.

Do I need to book parks?

Popular marine parks and some treks need timing, an operator, and cash for fees. Similan days are capped (visitor cap cited 3,850) and seasonal. Inland parks (Khao Yai, Doi Inthanon) are more “turn up with baht”, still with gate hours. Park permits.

How much is Khao Yai for a foreigner?

Doi Inthanon and Khao Sok — the other two boards?

Snorkel or dive?

If you have never dived, snorkel first on a calm day. Many reefs are snorkel depth. Discover Scuba is a taste; Open Water is a multi-day course (Tao, Phuket, Khao Lak). Do not try-dive from a longtail if you cannot swim in open water. Snorkel or dive.

When do the Similans close?

Closed about 16 May–14 October 2026; open about 15 October–15 May. Foreigner adult park fee commonly ~500 THB. Not a grey-market boat problem — a park season. Park permits.

Can I fly a drone in a national park?

Treat it as no unless you have written permission you can show a ranger. Drones over parks are restricted; a wat inside a park is two agencies. Park permits and Temple etiquette.

Do not ride. Prefer observation that does not include a howdah, a circus trick, or a bathing session that exists for the camera. Wild viewing (Khao Yai roads, at a distance) is the ethical version that still might be zero elephants that afternoon. Elephants.

Do park gates take cards?

Often no. Carry baht. Wristbands on island days; photograph the ticket before the spray. ATMs in gateway towns, not always at the booth. Gateway money: Money and SIM.

Is monsoon all-day rain?

Usually not the British drizzle. Mornings can be bright; afternoons build; a hard rain for an hour; then steam. Multi-day events happen, especially around peak months. Boats still cancel on one bad afternoon. Monsoon seasons.

Can I do both coasts in ten days?

You can collect airports. You will not have a holiday. Pick one sea, then stay. Which coast. If the week is actually Bangkok plus a park, that is a different trip — Khao Yai is the accessible inland one.
