Land & Sea is coasts, parks, monsoon, reefs, and wildlife in the Thailand InfoBuffoon network. It is written for visitors who will actually stand at a park gate or a pier, not for a coffee-table caption.
What you will find
The Andaman and the Gulf do not share a weather mood. November–April is the usual Andaman window; May–October often favours the Gulf. October is a hinge. A closed marine park is closed. Monsoon seasons.
Park fees are posted, two-tier, and often cash. Foreign adult figures we can pin: Khao Yai 400 THB, Doi Inthanon 300 THB, Similan about 500 THB. Last boats are real. Drones are a separate offence. Park permits.
Elephant tourism is not automatically kind because a sign says sanctuary. We do not recommend riding. Elephants. Snorkel is enough on a lot of reefs; Open Water is a course, not a Tuesday. The Similans close for the southwest monsoon.

Who publishes this site

Land & Sea sits with three sister guides. This one is the outdoor half of a trip: which sea, which park, which month, and what the gate will actually take.
How we write
Where a figure is an official board, we say so. Where it is a visitor-reported band, we say that too. Suitability bars on the coast page are planning sketches, not millimetre tables. A reef that photographed well in 2016 is not a promise after bleaching years.

We will not pretend both coasts are fine “if you don’t mind a bit of rain”. Rain is not the issue; boats are the issue. We will not launder elephant riding through the word sanctuary. We will not treat a national park like a zoo with better lighting.
The sea and the park, without the folklore
“The islands” is not a climate. Andaman limestone and Gulf palm sit on opposite sides of the peninsula and take rain in different months. A closed park is closed — Similan in the southwest monsoon is not a loophole for a private longtail.
National park fees are two-tier. Thai nationals pay less. A UK driving licence is not a Thai ID. Carry baht. Photograph the wristband before the spray. Last boats leave because the channel gets ugly, not because staff want to spoil sunset.
Wild elephants are a maybe at a handful of parks, at a distance. A painted nail and a howdah are a different product. Hornbills and a monitor on a wat wall are the wildlife you are actually likely to see. Kui Buri and Khao Yai are the honest elephant conversations; a city show is not.
Reefs want fins you can control and a body that does not stand up. Walking on live coral is vandalism even when the guide says “just here”. A mask you already own beats a rental that has fogged for a thousand noses. A rash vest does more honest sun work than a bottle that claims to be reef-safe and then rinses off you in the first ten minutes.
Khao Sok is not a beach. Cheow Lan is a reservoir with karst and a last-return time. Doi Inthanon is high enough for a fleece in the same week Bangkok is 34 °C. Pack for the place on the ticket, not for “Thailand”.
What we will not do
We will not rank beaches as if sand were a competition with a winner. We will not send a first-time snorkeller to a current they cannot read because the water is pretty from a drone. We will not invent a 2026 dive-shop price list. Tickets live at the window.

Corrections
Wrong monsoon month, a gate that has changed, a Similan date that moved: Contact. Name the page. A dated photo of the sign is the useful correction. We cannot hold a boat; we can stop telling you it still runs at 17:10.
